Today was my kickoff for following the TNT Diet. TNT stands for Targeted Nutrition Tactics. At its foundation it is a low carbohydrate, moderate protein, high fat dietary guideline, with a heavy emphasis on weight lifting. The diet incorporates both simple and complex carbs at the “right times” over a period of 5 Phases. The initial phase lasts for a minimum of 4 weeks.

In addition to starting the diet today, I decided to go cold turkey on eliminating all soda consumption, including diet soda. Diet soda is actually allowed on TNT, but I figured what the heck….why not just go ahead and shock the ever living heck out of my body all at once and “can” the diet sodas too (we had a good run Diet Coke….see ya ’round).

I stayed on plan today. No sodas, no carbs. I was fine during the morning hours, but then developed quite a headache in the early afternoon. Typically, that would’ve been the point I’d have grabbed a Diet Coke. Instead, I grabbed a couple of aspirin and a lot of water. My headache finally subsided later in the day, but then during the evening hours I was literally craving something with carbs….I was watching some cake baking contest on The Food Network, and there weren’t many things that sounded better than a piece of chocolate cake at that moment. Obviously mistake #1 there was watching a cake baking contest while starting a low carb diet – nothing in the world like a little self inflicted pain. The good news is I didn’t cave….I grabbed some water and eventually some cheese and pepperoni to snack on (both within the guidelines of TNT). I tried to pretend the cheese was actually chocolate cake – I can tell you that visual did NOT work.

Day 1 is down….can’t wait for Day 2 tomorrow!!!
